| Blessed be the Name of the Lord Job 1: 1-5, 13-22 “The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord.” (Job 1:21b NKJV) Sudden news tipped our lives upside down. It was early spring and our family had been laboring in a difficult, heartbreaking ministry for over seven years. It had been hard to stay, but leaving was harder still. We were leaving the familiar for an uncertain existence. We would have no place to live and no consistent income. While it was hard, we survived and we were lead to a new ministry and home before cold weather. It would be so easy to demand an answer of God or to become bitter, but Job’s response to tragedy is truly amazing. Upon hearing devastating news, Job fell to the ground in worship, and say, “Blessed be the name of the Lord.” And scripture says, “In all this, Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong… “Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?”” (1 Job 1:22, 2:10a) Prayer: I will bless your name on the good days and the bad days. Help me respond to tragedy with praise and faith and not sin. |
